Eligible students are undergraduate students who experienced a sudden change in their household finances and are in need of financial assistance for their education for such reasons as the death of the person who supports their family financially, a serious residual disability of such person, the dismissal of such person because of reasons at his or her place of employment, and damages caused to their houses. They must apply for acceptance under this category within three months of the sudden change. Successful applicants qualify for the grant-type financial aid program offered by JASSO and Ritsumeikan University Tuition Reduction (limited to the maximum amount set by the Japanese government). Students already receiving payments through financial aid programs of the same type are outside the scope of eligibility.
